Michael Essien scores first goal for Persib Bandung

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien grabbed his first goal in for Persib Bandung in their 2-2 away draw against PS TNI in the Indonesian Liga 1 on Saturday.

The 33-year-old made an immediate impact when he replaced Ahmad Subagja in the second-half and successfully broke his team’s deadlock in the 50th minute.

Essien found the back of the net through a fine header after receiving a decent pass from Kim Jeffrey Kurniawan, before Atep Rizal doubled Maung Bandung’s lead two minutes later.

However, the hosts rallied from behind to score two quick goals within the last two minutes of the game through Erwin Ramdani and Gustur Cahyo.

The former Chelsea player was under the spotlight this week alongside former English international Carlton Cole due to irregularities in their residency permits and were facing fine and jail.

Persib are currently in the 10th position with two points from two games after drawing 1-1 with Arema on the opening day at home.
