Former Japan U-22 assistant in the mix for Thai national team post

Japanese coach Takahiro Shimada is the latest candidate for the Thai head coach vacancy.

The former defender is set to visit Thai FA on April 16.

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has been actively on the hunt for a new head coach following Kiatisuk Senamuang’s resignation.

Other candidates that have talked with FAT are René Meulensteen and Winfried Schafer, although other names have also been mentioned.

Zico, Frank Rijkaard, Jurgen Klinsmann and Alejandro Sabella have all been linked with the vacancy.

Kiatisuk Senamuang stepped down after two heavy defeats in the 2018 World Cup qualification third round against Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Those defeats left the War Elephants dead last in Group B with a single point after 7 matches.
