Mitra Kukar name former Liverpool star Mohamed Sissoko as marquee signing

Indonesian side Mitra Kukar have announced their marquee player, signing former Liverpool and Juventus star Mohamed Sissoko for this year’s Liga 1.

The 32-year-old Malian international midfielder was a part of the Liverpool side that won the English Community Shield in 2006 and FA Cup in 2005-06.

He also won consecutive UEFA Super Cup titles in 2004 and 2005, first with Valencia and then with Liverpool, as well as winning the Spanish La Liga with during the 2003-04 season.

“Sissoko signed a contract with us until the end of Liga 1 this season, then we will review his performances before deciding to offer an extension or not,” Suwanto, the team director of Mitra Kukar told Goal Indonesia.

Sissoko started his youth career in 1998 with French club Auxerre before continuing his career with Valencia, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Fiorentina and Levante.

He moved to Asia in 2015 after signing for Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua and also had a short stint with the Indian Super League franchise Pune City FC last year.
