Winfried Schäfer visits FA president at FAT headquarter

One of the candidates to become Thailand’s new boss, Winfried Schäfer paid the FA president Somyot Poompanmoung a visit at their headquarter yesterday.

The 67-year-old German has been heavily linked with the War Elephants following Kiatisuk Senamuang’s decision to leave the national team.

Schäfer is no stranger to the Thai football scene, having previously managed them from 2011 to 2013 and guided them to the final of 2012 AFF Championship.

He recently managed Jamaica national team and reached 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final.

It is believed that Schäfer and Poompanmoung met to iron out issues regarding the German’s potential contract. If all goes well, the official announcement could be made in the coming days.
