Singapore to host Argentina at National Stadium in June

Two-time World Cup champions Argentina are scheduled to come to Singapore to play an international friendly at the National Stadium on June 13.

Reports from Singapore indicate that the current Number Two in the FIFA world rankings will take on V. Sundramoorthy’s men after their trip to Australia to play a friendly against Brazil on June 9.

The match against their South American arch-rivals will see Argentina putting together a strong squad that could include Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Marcus Rojo (Manchester United), Angel Di Maria (Paris St Germain), Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus) and Javier Mascherano (Barcelona).

However, fans keen on watching superstar Lionel Messi in action could be disappointed.

The prolific 29-year-old Barcelona striker has been suspended by Fifa for four games for verbally abusing an assistant referee during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Chile. He sat out Argentina’s following qualifier against Bolivia on Tuesday, and barring a successful appeal will miss three more games.

Argentina are currently 5th on the current stage of CONMEBOL Qualification campaign, one point off the automation qualification spot.
