Thai captain asks fan to continue supporting national team

Speaking after the heavy defeat at home against Saudi Arabia, Thailand’s captain Theerathon Bunmathan admit his team was overconfident before the kick-off.

“I think we were too confident before the game that we could beat Saudi Arabia, but they are a great team,” Bunmathan said in the interview post match.

“We will try out best in the next game.”

Poor defending once again proved Thailand’s undoing in the Group B World Cup Qualifier. Mohamed Alsahlawi gave the visitor the lead in the 25th minute, and Salman Mushawar scored in added time to seal the win for the Saudis.

Tanaboon Kesarat summed up Thailand’s lackluster defense by diverting the ball into his own net six minutes before time.

Bunmathan, however, pleads the fan to keep rallying behind the players.

“I want to ask the Thai fans to continue supporting us.”

“I will be banned for the next match, but my teammates will do everything they can.”

Thailand remain at the bottom of Group B with just one single point from six matches and their qualification campaign seems all but over.

Thailand’s upcoming match is a difficult fixture away to Japan, who beat United Arab Emirates 2-0 last night.
