Madura United FC will use Magelang Cup, which will take place from March 29 to 5 April as an opportunity to test the ability of new signing Peter Odemwingie. The Nigerian striker is set to undergo medical tests scheduled at the end of this month.
Madura United’s opponents in the cup will include PPSM Sakti Magelang, PSMP Mojokerto Putra, and Persipur Purwodadi.
“Madura United have at least eight games before the start of the new Liga 1 season. We’ve confirmed to join Magelang Cup. This is a good event for us to add practicing hours for the players and also to test the cohesiveness of the team, “said manager Haruna Soemitro.
Head coach Gomes de Olivera will bring his best squad for the two tournaments. Greg Nwokolo was previously reported injured but he eventually joined the team’s training yesterday afternoon at the Bangkalan Stadium.
Madura United plan to use a squad of at least 28 players from Liga 1, which consists of 22 senior and five junior players, besides Odemwingie.
“Until now we are still recruiting new players to fill the slots of birth after 1995. PSSI policy is unlikely to change, still minimal five players under the age of 22,” said Haruna.
