PSSI announces marquee rules for Indonesian Liga 1

Football Association of Indonesia has announced the addition of a foreign marquee player position for Liga 1 this season.

According to PSSI president Edy Rahmayadi, the clubs will be allowed to sign only one marquee regardless three, which one of those must be from Asia, foreign rules per team.

The new concept for marquee is limited for players under 35 years old with having FIFA World Cup experiences and previously played in the top leagues.

The announcement came as a huge boost for Persib Bandung, who have signed former Chelsea star Michael Essien in early this week.

However, not all clubs will be thrilled about the new changes, given that several are struggling to stay afloat and cope with the rising financial pressures of competing in the competition.
