Iranian international goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi joins AFC Eskilstuna

Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi has joined Swede side AFC Eskilstuna today on a one-year contract. Eskilstuna is currently competing in Sweden’s top tier Allsvenskan

Sports director Azad Budak has nothing but praises for the 28-year-old goalkeeper:

“We have for a long time sought to strengthen the keeper side and now we have found the right person.”

Haghighi previously played for Persepolis, Rubin Kazan and most recently Marítimo in Primeira Liga, Portugal’s top division.

In addition, the 28-year-old was part of the Iranian national team that played the World Cup in Brazil 2014. Iran finished last in the group after nations such as Argentina, Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina with just one point.

In the tournament, Haghighi became the first Iranian goalkeeper to achieve a clean sheet at a FIFA World Cup after a goalless draw with Nigeria. The Tehran-born has won 26 caps in total for Iran.
