Wayne Rooney has confirmed that he is staying with Manchester United, after being linked with a move to China.
The 31-year-old has featured sparingly under Jose Mourinho this season and had been heavily linked with a move to the Chinese Super League.
Rooney’s agent, Paul Stretford, had travelled to China to see if he could negotiate a deal but it would appear the England captain has rejected the interest for now.
“Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I’m grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United,” he said in a statement.
“I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts. It’s an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.”
Rooney was previously being linked to Beijing Guoan, Guangzhou Evergrande, Jiangsu Suning and Tianjin Quanjian.
