Al Wahda manager Javier Aguirre said in a recent interview that his side’s 3-0 Arabian Gulf League defeat away to Al Nasr had nothing to do with fatigue, but instead was a result of the player’s mistakes.
Al Wahda defeated Al Wehdat 3-0 at home to qualify for the group stage of the 2017 AFC Champions League last week. However, just four days later, the team was handed a 3-0 defeat by Al Nasr – a result which is expected to damage their chance of a top-three finish this season.
However, Javier Aguirre insisted that the embarrassing defeat had nothing to do with fatigue.
“There was a balance between the two teams until Al Nasr scored the first goal. Then we weren’t able to comeback” the Mexican coach told reporters.
“This was not about the Asian Champions League, it was about the mistakes we made,” he added.
Al Wahda is currently sitting in the sixth place in the Arabian Gulf League table, 13 points behind the third place with just 8 matches remaining.
The team will face Iran’s Persepolis, Qatar’s Al-Rayyan and Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia at the group stage of the AFC Champions League.
