Lanexang United withdraw from football competition in 2017 season

Laotian side Lanexang United has announced their formal withdrawal from the 2017 Lao Premier League and 2017 AFC Cup competitions with immediate effect on the club’s official Facebook page.

The decision was made by the club’s board of directors following an unprecedented withdrawal eight football clubs in the 2017 Lao Premier League season.

Lanexang United estimated that the potential six-team Premier League will make the commercial viability of football in Laos untenable, so the club have decided to withdraw from the competition altogether.

The Lao Premier League defending champions also denied match-fixing allegations, saying that the club “unequivocally refute any possibility of Lanexang United to be involved in such conduct”.
