The stadium is the former home of Selangor FA and current home of PKNS FC. It has a capacity of 80,372.

The Shah Alam Stadium broke ground on 1 January 1990 and was officially opened on 16 July 1994.

It has hosted the first leg of the semi-final match of 2014 AFF Suzuki Championship between Malaysia and Vietnam, as well as friendly matches of Malaysia XI against Chelsea (2008), and Malaysia XI against Arsenal (2011).
