The Suita Stadium pitch dazzled on Saturday night thanks to a projection mapping show arranged by J1 veterans Gamba Osaka.
The large-scale performance came courtesy of club sponsors Panasonic, who in the past have provided similar displays for Bundesliga titans Bayern Munich as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics. According to a press release, it was the first use of projection mapping at a J.League match.
Gamba used the technology to announce the team’s starting lineup, as documented by Twitter user @scared329:

Fans who stayed around after the team’s 3-0 win against FC Tokyo were treated to a long-form performance which took up the entire pitch:

The display took place one decade after Japan’s bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup promised the development of 3d holographic broadcast technology to be used in stadium simulcasts.
