Erik ten Hag has finally been given the sack as Manchester United manager following Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat against West Ham United.<\/p>\n
Jarrod Bowen scored a stoppage-time penalty to leave United languishing 14th in the table with only three wins from their opening nine games of the league campaign.<\/p>\n
Ten Hag was already at risk of losing his job last season following an eighth-place finish in the league, but had been granted a stay of execution due to an encouraging win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final that actually saw him handed a contract extension until 2026. The FA Cup was the second trophy Ten Hag won during his time at Old Trafford, following the Carabao Cup triumph in 2023.<\/p>\n
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” United said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”<\/p>\n
