Former Liverpool ace Graeme Souness has given his vote for the greatest striker in England history to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer rather than former Tottenham talisman, Harry Kane.<\/p>\n
In his dialogue with Simon Jordan on the latest episode of their podcast\u00a0Simon & Souness<\/em>, the Liverpool legend picked the all-time Premier League top goalscorer Shearer over the all-time England top goalscorer.<\/p>\n Former Tottenham dangerman Kane had exited Spurs for Bayern Munich during the summer. The 30-year-old, currently with 26 goals in 23 games, is already rapidly stirring up audiences in Munich, with teammate Thomas Muller bestowing the accolade of the best striker in the world.<\/p>\n However, his exit from the Premier League has denied him of the opportunity to surpass Shearer\u2019s all-time goal record in the league \u2014at least for the present, that is.<\/p>\n Shearer, who played for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, scored an incredible 260 goals in the English Premier League. To date, no other striker has managed to come anywhere close to the record set by Shearer.<\/p>\n In settling the debate finally between Shearer vs Kane, Souness has firmly cast his ballot in favor of Shearer as the man.<\/p>\n Speaking on the podcast, he said:<\/p>\n \u201cFor me, you want someone who has a bit of everything,\u201d\u00a0Souness said.<\/p>\n \u201cShearer had a bit of everything.<\/p>\n \u201cHe could be robust, take the blows, he could bully centre-halves. He wasn\u2019t the biggest but he seemed to pick the flight of the ball up faster than the centre-backs he was playing against.<\/p>\n \u201cHe could run in behind, not when I had him at Newcastle, but he could. For me, he\u2019s been the best England centre forward and that\u2019s including Harry Kane.\u201d<\/p>\n At this juncture it would be difficult not to agree with the former Liverpool ace as Shearer has a Premier League title as a feather in his cap and still remains the all-time top goalscorer in the league\u2019s history.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
