Former Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is apparently touted as a \u2018strong contender\u2019 to return to the club following the sacking of Patrick Vieira on Friday morning with 12th-placed Crystal Palace just three points clear of the relegation zone.<\/p>\n
The Eagles have been winless in the Premier League since New Year\u2019s Eve, having had five draws and six defeats since their last victory, which came against AFC Bournemouth.<\/p>\n
They are up against Arsenal this weekend, which would be their final game before the international break hits.<\/p>\n
Latest reports are that Palace under-21 manager Paddy McCarthy will be given the opportunity to lead the club to Premier League safety after Viera\u2019s departure and the further indication is that McCarthy\u00a0\u2018could land the job on an interim basis until the end of the season if he impresses\u2019.<\/p>\n
Palace are allegedly looking at alternative options, in the meantime with David Ornstein of The Athletic reporting that former Eagles manager Hodgson is a \u2018strong contender\u2019 for the vacancy.<\/p>\n
Hodgson previously spent four years as Palace\u2019s manager and departed the club prior to the 2021\/22 campaign. The 75-year-old doyen would \u2018take charge of the relegation-threatened club until the end of the season\u2019 and this would be ‘considered a surprise return’.<\/p>\n
Additionally the report states: \u201cOther candidates will also be assessed as the situation is evaluated by the Palace hierarchy over the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sky Sports<\/em>\u00a0states that Hodgson is \u2018in talks to return\u2019 to Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n Allegedly Palace \u2018have spoken to a number of candidates, including Adi Hutter (former Borussia Monchengladbach boss)\u2019 but Hodgson is the ‘clear frontrunner’.<\/p>\n Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has told\u00a0Sky Sports<\/em>\u00a0that they are \u201cnot looking past\u201d this weekend\u2019s game vs Arsenal.<\/p>\n \u201cFootball is a strange game as things can very quickly start not going right. When you feel you can\u2019t get out of a rut, unfortunately then you\u2019ve got to change something,\u201d Parish said.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe things might have changed [for the better] anyway, but I couldn\u2019t be sure of it so I\u2019ve made the call I have and we move forward from here.<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody loved Patrick, he never lost the players at all.
