Premier League legend Ian Wright has claimed it would indeed be “very harsh” on Liverpool to miss out on a Champions League qualification spot with just one game of the season left to play.<\/p>\n
Premier League title-holders Liverpool took a huge step towards securing Champions League qualification after putting on a rampant display away at Turf Moor in front of the Burnley\u00a0faithful with goals from Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Phillips and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain enough to ensure the Reds returned to Merseyside with all three points.<\/p>\n
The race for the final top four spots will go down to the last day, with Chelsea and Liverpool now firmly in contention with their destiny in their own hands, while on the other hand Leicester need to win their game and hope for other results to go their way.<\/p>\n
In the event that the Foxes overcome Spurs on the last day, and Tuchel\u2019s boys fail to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park, Leicester and Liverpool still have the opportunity to make the top four while the Blues slip to fifth.<\/p>\n
Former Reds great, Ian Wright, has opened up on how he feels it would be harsh on, not to mention a tad unfair to, the Reds to miss out on the top four spots given the deluge of injuries they have had to deal with over the course of the campaign with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all been side-lined for lengthy periods, leaving Liverpool with no alternatives but to rely on some very inexperienced names in central defence.<\/p>\n
HITC quotes the Premier League icon Wright as telling Premier League Productions:<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel sorry for Liverpool with everything that has happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the injuries and everything that has happened to them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the way they blasted the league last year after missing out by a point the year before. Then they get to a situation where they are decimated with injuries. Their front three stop firing.<\/p>\n
Wright continued: \u201cThen they find it at the end to get something.<\/p>\n
“For them to have a demise, not even get into Champions League\u00a0for everything they have done the last couple of years then I think it will be very harsh on them.\u201d<\/p>\n
