Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, known for his proclivity for not letting things lie, took a sly jibe at Red Devils boss, Ole Gunnar ahead of the two sides\u2019 Premier League meeting on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Last month, after United faltered and crashed out of the FA Cup, Solskjaer had said post-match that trophies are an \u201cego thing\u201d for managers, and sometimes hide real progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cups are sometimes an ego thing for managers and clubs. It\u2019s not like a trophy will say \u2018we are back\u2019, no,\u201d Solskjaer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s gradual progression at the top of the league. Sometimes the cup competitions can hide your progress a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Mourinho, when asked about the statement at a pre-match press conference on Friday, said that former Old Trafford manager and doyen, Sir Alex Ferguson, would definitely take exception to the Norwegian\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure that his big boss, Sir Alex, has a different opinion about it,\u201d the Spurs boss told reporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I respect what Solskjaer thinks. I think differently. Freedom of thinking, freedom of ideas. If that\u2019s the way he thinks, that\u2019s fine for me. It\u2019s not a problem for me,\u201d the former United boss added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not being disrespectful for everyone. But I believe that, I repeat, his big boss, the biggest of Premier League history, has a different view in relation to that,\u201d he further insisted.<\/p>\n
Sunday\u2019s clash is crucial for both the teams as United need to maintain their lead over Leicester City, who are just four points behind, while a win for Spurs would see them tie in points with fourth-placed West Ham.<\/p>\n
It is a painful reminder for Ole\u2019s side that the last time the two clubs met, United suffered a most humbling 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the players will remember that game with a lot of pain and their pride has been hurt,\u201d the Norwegian said at the pre-match conference<\/p>\n
\u201cPre-season was short \u2026 but we were so poor and I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll see some players wanting to prove we\u2019re better than that.\u201d<\/p>\n
