Thomas Tuchel – appointed by Chelsea to replace evicted Frank Lampard \u2013 began his tenure with an unimpressive 0-0 draw against Wolves, and the former PSG boss has now sent a message to the club\u2019s hierarchy over his contract and future.<\/p>\n
New Chelsea boss Tuchel has quickly reconciled himself with his terms of engagement and reckons the length of his contract is irrelevant, declaring:<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they\u2019re not happy, they\u2019ll sack me anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n
The German, who was brought in almost overnight to take over the hot seat vacated by sacked Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge last week, has been appointed on an 18-month deal with an option to extend his contract by a further year, assuming he lasts that long.<\/p>\n
Although initially caught offguard and surprised by that relatively short-term offer, Tuchel finally reckoned it was still worth the gamble. Himself having been sacked by Paris Saint-German in December, Tuchel said:<\/p>\n
“I want to be very honest. At first, it was a concern – a little bit like, \u2018Oh, why 18 months?\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter after one minute, I thought: \u2018What does it change if they gave me four-and-a-half years and sack me anyway?\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they\u2019re not happy with me, they will sack me.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they gave four-and-a-half years and put in a clause that, when they sack me, they don\u2019t pay me, where can I be sure with that?<\/p>\n
“You cannot. That\u2019s the truth at this level.<\/p>\n
\u201cI decided not to worry too much, to do it and be brave enough to take this adventure because I don\u2019t want to miss the chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s my character to believe more in the chances than the risks. For me, there\u2019s nothing to be afraid of.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chelsea host Sean Dyche’s Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday at 12pm.<\/p>\n
This will be an opportunity for the ex Borussia Dortmund head coach to go one up on his team\u2019s lackluster performance under his first assignment as the newly-appointed Blues\u2019 boss.<\/p>\n
