Adrian Durham has hurled a stinger at both Jose Mourinho and Gareth Bale, taking aim at the former for having elected to play central midfielder Moussa Sissoko ahead of the Welshman at right wing in Wednesday\u2019s 1-1 draw against Fulham, adding insult to injury by saying that Bale\u2019s role in the team has been reduced to nothing more than a \u2018cheerleader on the bench\u2019 during his second spell with Tottenham.<\/p>\n
The Welshman had fortuitously sealed an emotional return to north London when offered on loan from the Zidane\u2019s Los Blancos last September, having been frozen out by the French head coach in the Spanish capital.<\/p>\n
Bale, unfortunately, has been relegated to a substitute role since returning to Spurs, having started just one Premier League match so far. And Durham wasted no time in lambasting Mourinho for his decision to play Sissoko out of position, while questioning Bale\u2019s role at Spurs.<\/p>\n
The talkSPORT host said: \u201c[Jose] has turned them Spursy again, there\u2019s no doubt about that.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a shocker from him\u2026 The Sissoko thing, I just don\u2019t get.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat does it say about Bale? Right now, he\u2019s a cheerleader on the bench.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t mean to be disrespectful \u2013 that\u2019s exactly the job he\u2019s doing.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s making people laugh on the bench. They need him out on the field being good if he\u2019s capable of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut all we\u2019re seeing now is the reason why Real Madrid didn\u2019t play him as much as people wanted him to be played.\u201d<\/p>\n
In another almost similar reference earlier this week, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy had noted that Bale\u2019s return to Tottenham looked \u2018strange\u2019.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cIt\u2019s looking like an increasingly strange signing, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n
\u201cI know the Spurs fans were excited about it and I was too, I was looking forward to seeing what Gareth Bale was going to turn up and what we were going to see from him.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we\u2019ve not seen anything, have we? We haven\u2019t seen anything of him.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far, you\u2019d have to say it\u2019s been a bad signing.\u201d<\/p>\n
