Barcelona\u00a0FC\u2019s presidential elections are likely be postponed due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, according to one of the final four candidates.<\/p>\n
Carlos Tusquets is currently holding the fort as the interim president of the Blaugrana\u00a0but elections will be held on 24 January with multiple candidates vying to replace the departed, highly inadequate Josep Maria Bartomeu.<\/p>\n
Victor Font, the current second frontrunner in the race, has cast doubt on the elections taking place on the proposed date due to the ongoing pandemic and the lack of options to vote remotely.<\/p>\n
Font has said, in quotes carried by De[prtes Cuarto: \u201cNot being able to vote in your town, for example, is more than an objective reason to say that it cannot be that only 10,000-15,000 members vote.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be legitimacy problems.\u00a0The members who wants to vote must be able to do so safely. We are in a very critical moment of the pandemic, and\u00a0if the club does not provide solutions\u00a0so that in two weeks we can vote in a different way than planned,\u00a0the elections cannot be held.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany members are scared, they have told us so.\u201d<\/p>\n
Font, the second favorite to assume the position, collected 4,710 members\u2019 signatures to ensure his place on the final ballot is behind his main rival Joan Laporta, who was the club\u2019s former president, who collected 10,257 member signatures and stands fourth on the all-time record list at this stage.<\/p>\n
Tony Freixa and Emili Roussaud are the two remaining candidates for the elections, with both viewed as outsiders in the running.<\/p>\n
