Manchester United is now again in crisis mode following two hugely disappointing defeats.<\/p>\n
Fans have been jubilant of late, thinking the Red Devils had navigated a tight corner following last week\u2019s convincing 5-0 victory over a strong RB Leipzig side, but that salivating result has been followed up with dire performances against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir.<\/p>\n
Wednesday night\u2019s Champions League defeat in Turkey was possibly the worst display by the team during Solskjaer\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n
Former Chelsea player Demba Ba opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute following some truly lamentable defending from the Red Devils\u2019 backline.<\/p>\n
“That goal is completely down to organisation. It\u2019s like Under-10\u2019s football,\u201d United legend Paul Scholes commented.<\/p>\n
“What the back four were doing I have no idea, it\u2019s embarrassing.”<\/p>\n
Edin Visca then made it two up in the hosts\u2019 advantage before Anthony Martial pulled a goal back for United on the stroke of half-time. No further goals ensued in the second half as Istanbul Basaksehir, supposedly the weakest side in the group, sealed their first ever Champions League group stage win.<\/p>\n
Later on Wednesday evening, former United defender and legend Rio Ferdinand spoke up for every Manchester United\u00a0supporter with his scathing post-match rant in analysing the woeful defending for Ba\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n
The former United centre-back said:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t see this on Hackney Marshes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere are the defenders? The goalkeeper [Dean Henderson] must be thinking \u2018I\u2019ve not seen this at Sheffield United all last season, I\u2019ve come to Man Utd – one of the biggest teams around – and there\u2019s zero organisation\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere is the person organising and dominating that situation?<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m screaming at someone if I\u2019m on the half-way line. Crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ferdinand expressed hopefully that United\u2019s players would be fuming with each other inside the dressing room after such a dismal team performance.<\/p>\n
He continued:<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m begging that someone\u2019s in that changing room dragging people about or asking the question: \u2018Are you for real? Do you know what\u2019s going on here? Where\u2019s your responsibility? Who\u2019s accountable for this?<\/p>\n
\u201cIs someone standing up and saying \u2018this was my fault\u2019 or digging someone out? Surely that\u2019s happening – I pray to God it is!\u201d<\/p>\n
As for Solskjaer, again under the spotlight with the pressure piling up once again, Ferdinand hopes the United boss dished out the United\u2019s Ferguson-patented \u2018hairdryer\u2019 treatment – although he\u2019s unconvinced this would have been the case.<\/p>\n
He added:<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope Ole\u2019s in there in front of people, over people, saying \u2018listen, you are embarrassing yourself and me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if it\u2019s in Solskjaer\u2019s personality to do that, Ferdinand added:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t his personality as a player, no chance, that wasn\u2019t what Ole was about. He was very quiet, he was somebody who took care of his own game, but he was cutting with comments at times when he needed to be.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just hope he\u2019s very animated in that dressing room because those players need a rocket.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way they\u2019re playing at the moment, the inconsistency, the way they\u2019re allowing people to run off them\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t see any intensity at all. There\u2019s no intensity in the way that they play. I don\u2019t see them getting up against people, ruffling feathers on a consistent basis. We might see it for one game, then we don\u2019t see it for two. You can\u2019t do that at a top club.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you want to be a top club going for trophies and competing, you need to be doing that week-in, week-out and that\u2019s going to be the demand put on everyone every week.\u201d<\/p>\n
United will be hoping to recover from this setback and bounce back to winning ways this weekend, but Everton will surely be fancying their chances of beating Solskjaer\u2019s side at Goodison Park.<\/p>\n
