Vincent Kompany has announced his retirement from playing career in order to be a full-time Anderlecht manager.<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old had been a player-manager and co-managed with Frank Vercauteren early last season.<\/p>\n
But he stepped down from his management role three months later to concentrate as a player.<\/p>\n
But Anderlecht could only finished 8th in Belgian Pro League as they missed out again from qualifying for European competitions and they decided to appoint Kompany as the new manager.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to fully commit to my role as a coach and need 100% of my time and focus for it. That\u2019s why I\u2019m quitting as a football player,\u201d Kompany said in a club statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to stay with the club for at least 4 seasons and prove that Anderlecht can play a modern style of football, with results.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kompany joined Manchester City from Hamburg in 2008 and soon became club captain, helping them win four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.<\/p>\n
He made 89 appearances for Belgium and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup.<\/p>\n
Kompany will make his full-time managerial debut in Sunday\u2019s league game against Mouscron.<\/p>\n
Anderlecht are third in the league with four points from two games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
