Roy Keane supports Premier League players not taking pay cuts.<\/p>\n
Criticism has been levelled at players over the past few weeks as clubs begin to feel the financial pinch from the lack of sporting action as a result of the suspension of the league due to the spread of the deadly disease.<\/p>\n
Expectation on footballers to give up their mind-boggling salary has been increasing, as clubs look to reach a compromise over pay cuts. However, the Professional Footballers’ Association has told players not to accept cuts while other clubs have agreed wage deferrals.<\/p>\n
And Keane, who won seven Premier League titles with Manchester United, has backed the players’ stance during the unprecedented crisis.<\/p>\n
‘I’m not sure how I would have dealt with it,’ he told Sky Sports’ Football Show. ‘A lot of players are getting criticised, the way I would look at it now, I wouldn’t take a pay cut from anybody if I was at one of the bigger clubs.<\/p>\n
‘It’s nobody’s business what you do with your wages. No one should believe anything they’re reading on wages. I don’t think players should feel under pressure from clubs. They’ve signed a contract.<\/p>\n
‘Your contract with the club is a personal matter. The idea all the players should take a pay cut is nonsense. If they want to stick to their guns then do it. Don’t be swayed by the media. I\u2019m surprised by the amount of people jumping on the bandwagon and criticising the players, it’s none of their business.’<\/p>\n
