Manchester United and England forward Marcus Rashford says helping children is his top priority after working to get food to those who relied on free school meals.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old has been working with charity FareShare to help children in the Manchester area after schools were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
Rashford told BBC Breakfast: \u201cIn the past I have done a lot of work in regards to children, and when I heard about the schools shutting down, I knew that meant free meals for some kids that they are not getting at school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember when I was at school I was on free meals and my Mum wouldn\u2019t get home until around six o\u2019clock, so my next meal would have been about 8 o\u2019clock.<\/p>\n
I was fortunate, and there are kids in much more difficult situations that don\u2019t get their meals at homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cHelping children is very important to me, it is at the top of my to-do list. In our generation there have been a lot of positive and negative influences. I am just trying to impact the next generation in a positive way.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have done the best we could with people donating, we have done very well. We have got to the \u00a3100,000 mark, which means we get to feed 400,000 children, so it\u2019s been very positive.\u201d<\/p>\n
United and Manchester City have joined forces to donate and help people in the area affected by the pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think when times are tough it is important that two clubs who have a huge social following that we do come together and make a difference when things which are bigger than football happen. So credit to both clubs,\u201d Rashford said.<\/p>\n
The forward admits he is missing football.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just about patience. I have been working hard on the bikes and following the programme that I have been given from the club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been playing Fifa, reading different types of books. It is important to keep time passing with positive vibes and just keep smiling.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
