South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has decided to postpone Copa America to 2021 after suspending the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana last week.<\/p>\n
CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez said the tournament would be played between June 11 and July 11, 2021.<\/p>\n
“This is an extraordinary measure for an unexpected situation and responds to the fundamental need to avoid the exponential evolution of the virus.<\/p>\n
“It wasn’t easy to take this decision but we must safeguard at all times the health of our players and all those who form part of the big South American football family.<\/p>\n
“Have no doubts that the oldest international tournament in the world will be back stronger than ever in 2021.”<\/p>\n
This comes after UEFA postponed Euro to 2021.<\/p>\n
Copa was due to be held in two countries; Colombia and Argentina for the first time in its 104-year history.<\/p>\n
Australia and Qatar was supposed to joined this year’s competition.<\/p>\n
