One of the greatest goalkeeper of all time, Iker Casillas may retire in the near future to contest in Spanish FA presidential election.<\/p>\n
According to Cadena Ser, the 38-year-old Porto goalkeeper will be the opponent of Luis Rubiales.<\/p>\n
The radio station\u2019s El Larguero programme also reported that Casillas has already told his decision to the Higher Sports Council.<\/p>\n
His decision proved to be popular, as survey showed fans displaying their support for the goalkeeper with 94% of the votes in a hypothetical candidacy.<\/p>\n
Reports also said Casillas has already held discussions with former Spain international teammates who may be interested in supporting his candidacy for the position.<\/p>\n
The move is highly expected after Casillas fell ill during a training with Porto and was rushed to hospital before underwent a successful emergency surgery.<\/p>\n
He returned and was seen training with Porto this season but did not appear in any competition.<\/p>\n
In his overall career, Casillas has played over 700 games for Real Madrid and Porto.<\/p>\n
