Barcelona need to free up 200 million euros in wages if Messi renews

Barcelona are left with no options but to offload players to meet requirements in order to comply with LaLiga’s salary cap.

Despite their humongous debts, the Blaugranas have managed to secure the arrival of Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Emerson Royal and Memphis Depay all on their Bosman statuses, fortunately for Camp Nou.

However, the urgency now is to immediately raise funds significantly, without even factoring in club talisman Lionel Messi’s astronomical wages should his contract be renewed these next few days as largely expected.

According to RAC1, the club will have to free up around 200 million euros in wages if Leo indeed does end up committing his future to the club.

Barca president Joan Laporta, the man assigned the weighty Herculean task of cleaning the Aegean stables, has already warned that the situation is complicated and explained a few days ago that, for every 100 million euros freed up, only 25 million euros can be used.

Freeing up around 200 million euros means having to let go of quite a number of even senior players from the first XI, no less. One seriously can’t be envying the task of the newly-returned president.
