Sergio Aguero closing in on Barcelona move, ‘expected’ to sign two-year deal in summer

Veteran Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero’s contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the season and it looks like a move is quite likely on the cards which could see him join Barcelona at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Argentine scored his first league goal of the season as City beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday, after having suffered a frustrating few months of battling with injury problems and off-pitch issues.

Now it is looking increasingly likely that his ten-year spell at the Etihad will finish at the end of the campaign as according to Spanish outlet Diario AS, new Barcelona president Joan Laporta has moved speedily to get in contact with Aguero. And he, along with City defender Eric Garcia, looks set to make a move to Catalonia end of the season.

The signing of Aguero would bring a smile to Lionel Messi’s face, as the revered Argentine is known to be close with his fellow countryman.

If Aguero does leave he will most certainly be remembered as a City legend and arguably their greatest ever player, having helped the side win four Premier League titles, an FA Cup and five League Cups, and has become their all-time leading scorer with 257 goals in all competitions.

Aguero has been tight-lipped when asked about his future in recent weeks, but has not ruled out leaving City in June.

On his official Twitch channel he recently said:

“They are all writing Barca, Barca, Barca.

“Let’s hold on a little, have a look. Stop. We are still with City.”

His manager Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, said:

“Maybe I will think about it when the international break starts and I have more time.

“As a human and as a person – even as a player of course [I’d like him to stay]. But we have to see what happens at the end of the season.

“We cannot forget how long he was out. He has started getting better.

“I know he needs minutes to get to his best condition but we are not [able] to give him minutes [purely] for minutes because it is an important part of the season.

“We have to be calm, the club will speak to his agent to know the situation and we are going to talk at the end of the season. It’s the same with Fernandinho.”
