New Manchester United signing Donny Van De Beek fizzled in Netherlands game – did United panic buy?

Old Trafford diehards and hopefuls hoping for a scintillating display worth the bucks spent from new signing Donny van de Beek will be majorly disappointed to learn it was more of a ‘disasterclass’ last night in the Netherlands vs Italy encounter.

The former Ajax midfielder started for the Netherlands in their 1-0 defeat to Italy, with Nicolo Barella scoring the Azzurri winner at the end of the first half.

Van de Beek lasted all of 57 minutes in Amsterdam and was incredibly ineffective, having completed just five passes during his time on the pitch – two in the first half and a further three in the second before he was replaced by Spurs’ winger Steven Bergwijn.

He was gifted a very good opportunity to equalise when the ball was cut back to him inside the box but the 23-year-old booted the ball over the bar andnever managed to test goalie Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Twitter was awash with reaction on Van de Beek’s disappointing display with United fans up in panic state over the Dutcman’s performance acquisition by their club.

Ahead of his switch to United, Ajax fans gathered outside to say their goodbyes to Van de Beek (possibly with relief?).
