Jurgen Klopp made a surprise admissions after he was asked why his Liverpool squad does not have a single player from France.
When speaking to Canal+, Klopp admits he would love to have French players in his squad, but their asking price made it impossible for Liverpool to sign them.
“There’s no reason for it. Kylian Mbappe plays for PSG. Griezmann has joined Barcelona.
“Obviously you know how good your team is. We would like a French player but some of them are too expensive for us!”
Klopp implied how French players tend to sign with clubs who have world class reputation and strong financial backing from the management in terms of transfer fees.
Barcelona also boasts Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti, Jean-Clair Todibo and Clement Lenglet.
Real Madrid have Raphael Varane, Alphonse Areola, Karim Benzema and Ferland Mendy.
Meanwhile Bayern Munich have Benjamin Pavard, Mickael Cuisance, Lucas Hernandez and Kingsley Coman.
Serie A holder Juventus have Blaise Matuidi and Adrien Rabiot.
Even defending Premier League champion have Aymeric Laporte and Benjamin Mendy.
The last time Liverpool have French player was Mamadou Sakho, who later had a bust up with Jurgen Klopp, and was transferred to Crystal Palace.
French players are indeed expensive. After their recent success in World Cup 2018, their price went up higher, almost all of them cost more than 100 million euros.
If Klopp and Liverpool wants to sign a French player, they only have the option of signing player from academy, not the ones who have made their name in Europe.
