Liverpool could face Real Madrid, Athletico in Champions League last 16

The European champions who beat Salzburg 2-0 as Group E winners could face Real Madrid, Athletico and Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of Champions League.

The draw will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland at 11:00 GMT on Monday.

Since Liverpool topped the group with four win, drew one and one defeat, they will avoid any of the other group winners, Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona, RB Leipzig and Valencia.

Also, two sides from the same nation cannot be drawn together, so Tottenham and Chelsea is out as well as Napoli, who finished second in Group E.

However, that means Liverpool could face either Atalanta, Lyon, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.

“We know it’ll be tough regardless but we look forward to the challenge as we want to go far in this tournament again,” told Andrew Robertson.

“Last year and the year before we’ve been excellent in the knockout stages and we’ve controlled games but we know that now we’re the champions and everyone wants to beat us.”

“We’re respected in this tournament. The way we’ve done things in the last two years, nobody wants to play against us.”
