During this period Barreto helped Mohun Bagan win 2 National Football League titles including an incredible 2001-02 season where Mohun Bagan won five trophies including National League and Federation Cup.During this five seasons with Mohun Bagan, Barreto scored an incredible 126 goals from 180 matches.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2004 and 2005, Barreto had two successful seasons with Penang FA and Mahindra United, however, the &#8220;<em>Sobuj Tota<\/em>&#8220;(Green Parrot) of Bagan was reunited in 2006 season with an erstwhile transfer fee of 60lakhs Indian rupees.This marked an epic journey for Jose Ramirez Barreto whose popularity rose to cult status among Mariner fans and won everything for Mohun Bagan.<\/p>\n<p>Barreto was known for his calm demeanour and behaviour on and off the pitch while he equally lethal on the pitch. An epic marksman, a\u00a0shrewd poacher, sublime finisher and ability to turn games on his own is what made Barreto the Messiah\u00a0for Mohun Bagan fans.In 2010 season Barreto touched the unique feat of scoring 200 goals for Mohun Bagan from 324 games.<\/p>\n<p>Jose Ramirez Barreto still resonates in the heart of Mohun Bagan fans as a living legend and possibly one of the greatest footballers to have played in India.Barreto bid a tearful farewell to Mohun Bagan in front of 30,000 fans and his family on 6th May 2012 against Pune FC.Though he played briefly for Bhowanipore SC for a season, Jose Ramirez Barreto has been immortalized as part of Mohun Bagan folklore as one of the greatest overseas footballers to have played in India.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>2.Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-413\" src=\"https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/Beto-WALLPAPER2-720x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Roberto Mendes Silva popularly known as Beto arrived in India in the season of 2004-05 to join Mohun Bagan and had a lukewarm start to his footballing career in India.In 2005, Beto joined\u00a0 Goan side Dempo SC in 2006 and transformed himself as an attacking midfielder with his new club.Beto was one of the prolific players for Dempo SC\u00a0 helping them win the I-League in the following 2007-08 season.<\/p>\n<p>Beto was gifted with Brazilian flair in his style and play. He had a great vision in the attacking third and was equally potent inside the box.Beto was equally dangerous from set-pieces and often controlled the game from deep midfield to link both ends of the pitch.He had a stellar partnership with Ranty Martins and his contribution to Dempo&#8217;s success is invaluable between 2005-11 winning two titles for the Goan side.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"firstHeading\"><\/h1>\n<p>3.Cristiano Sebasti\u00e3o de Lima J\u00fanior:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-410\" src=\"https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/361783343-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Junior&#8221; was one the gifted Brazilian to have played in India, started his career in India in the 2003-04 season with East Bengal.He was phenomenal in his first season scoring 15 goals in 18 appearances.He had a deadly attacking combination with India international Bhaichung Bhutia and was scoring goals at crucial moments with his lethality and poaching instincts, bagging the highest scorer award with 15 goals.<\/p>\n<p>Following\u00a0season, Junior moved to shores of Goa with Dempo SC in the quest for better adaptability with relatable Portuguese influenced culture Goan culture.But fate had other ideas, as Junior died after an on-field collision with Mohun Bagan keeper Subrata Paul in the final of the Federation Cup. The fateful incident happened in the 78th minute as Junior in his attempt to score his second goal, collided with an onrushing Subrata Paul in the box and never woke up.<\/p>\n<p>Junior was declared dead on arrival and cardiac arrest was the reason mentioned.The fans were left in a grave shock and it was only left to contemplate what Junior might have achieved if he had a prolonged career but etched a memory with his simplicity off the field and scoring ability on the field in his brief career.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>4.Douglas Da Silva<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-409\" src=\"https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/06doglas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/06doglas.jpg 238w, https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/06doglas-153x225.jpg 153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Douglas Da Silva played for all &#8220;Big Three&#8221; in Kolkata and was known for his versatility to play at any position and formed a vital cog in Subhash Bhowmik&#8217;s East Bengal side.Douglas was a more gifted footballer in midfield where he could win crucial tackles and feed the forward line with his wide passing range. He was a master in controlling the game for midfield either to hold a defensive shape or push the team moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>With a gifted left foot and strong header, he was an imminent threat going forward into the box.Douglas was a crucial member in East Bengal&#8217;s ASEAN winning team in 2003 and played an integral part in winning two National League titles for the Red and Golds.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas also played for rival club Mohun Bagan having won the Calcutta League and Federation club with the Mariners but had a tepid stint with Mohammedan Sporting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>5.Mailson Alves:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-414\" src=\"https:\/\/football-tribe.com\/india\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/05\/yGL1iXsVf8-730x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mailson arrived on the Indian shores\u00a0in 2015 with Chennayin FC and made 12 appearances and in the following season with North East United made 9 appearances.
