Hummels has never been the fastest and has lost a step athletically. He has passed his peak in athletic terms. Today people say that the best age for footballers is 27, according to athletic criteria. That can be dangerous.<\/p>\n

5.Corentin Tolisso<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Almost scored an own goal in the first half and softly claimed an elbow. Disappointing display and playacting. Deschamps got more out of his substitute tonight so this selection was a little off. He didn\u2019t provide much going forward and Jedinak and Mooy were able to find more space than they probably deserved.<\/p>\n

6.Mesut \u00d6zil<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Other than a neat pass to Thomas M\u00fcller in the 57th minute, which was called offside, \u00d6zil had no notable contributions, which was disheartening for Arsenal fans. He seemed to play with the same casualness he implements at Arsenal when things don\u2019t go his way. If L\u00f6w decides to use \u00d6zil more in an attacking capacity, his performances might improve throughout the tournament. The 29-year-old lives in the attacking third, and that\u2019s where he should stay; slotting in tricky passes behind the defence for Timo Werner and the wingers to run onto. However, against Mexico, he was simply missing.<\/p>\n

7.Lucas Biglia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The main criticism toward Sampaoli focused on the lack of creativity as a result of starting Javier Mascherano and Lucas Biglia together. The pair weren’t functional to the needs of the team against Iceland, and the Milan central midfielder was replaced by Ever Banega later on. Offered nothing on offence except for five-yard passes, lost the ball countless times and didn\u2019t make more than maybe one lone tackle. A terrible pass of his led to Iceland\u2019s goal. He was a liability and shouldn\u2019t step on the field again for Argentina in this World Cup.<\/p>\n

8.Angel Di Maria<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Was rather anonymous for his entire 75 minutes on the pitch and Argentina fans were put out of their misery once Cristian PAVON was subbed in for him. Will reportedly lose his place for the match against Croatia, something that has been long overdue given his recent performances with the national team.<\/p>\n

9.John Obi Mikel<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Mikel started on the base of Nigeria\u2019s three-man midfield, operating just behind\u00a0Odion Ighalowho was flanked by\u00a0Victor Moses\u00a0and\u00a0Alex Iwobi.<\/p>\n

But the Super Eagles captain had a poor day without offering much. He didn\u2019t keep possession well, he lacked the skills, he didn\u2019t bring energy to the midfield, he had no legs and wasn’t a defensive asset for the Super Eagles.<\/p>\n

For the majority of the game, Mikel didn\u2019t get close to Ighalo, leaving Nigeria\u2019s number nine on his own up front. He rarely even got to the opposition\u2019s box.<\/p>\n

For the two remaining group game, Mikel must be sacrificed and Rohr has to have the balls to do it.<\/p>\n

Either take his captain backwards to join Ndidi in shielding the defence or drop him ultimately.<\/p>\n

10.Messi<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Constantly looked for space and appeared his side’s best route to goal. Poor penalty cost Argentina the win.<\/p>\n

When Maximiliano Meza was fouled in the box by Hodur Magnusson, the world\u2019s eyes turned on Messi who had the chance to give Argentina a 63rd minute lead from the spot.<\/p>\n

The pressure was high given Argentina had struggled to create good goal scoring chances, even great given Cristiano Ronaldo\u2019s epic hat-trick the previous night.<\/p>\n

The Argentina captain stepped up and struck the penalty slightly to the left and at a good height for Hannes Halldorsson to reach across and deny Messi.<\/p>\n

The miss from 12 yards brings Messi\u2019s penalty record to an unimpressive four scored and four missed in 2017\/18.<\/p>\n

11.Gabriel Jesus<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
