Experienced goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41.<\/p>\n
The former Denmark international ends his career after two seasons with Melbourne City in A-League, where he was named the league’s goalkeeper of the year in his first season.<\/p>\n
“It’s with great pride and a little bit of sadness, that I today officially announce my retirement from professional football,” Sorensen wrote on his Instagram.<\/p>\n
“It’s been an amazing journey with so many people to thank. Family, friends, clubs, coaches, players and fans, thank you.”<\/p>\n
Sorensen, who played 101 times for his country, previously played in the English Premier League for Sunderland, Aston Villa and Stoke, making more than 400 appearances.<\/p>\n
He plans to stay in Australia after retirement and will complete a charity bike ride in the country which will see him ride 3,500km in total next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
