As the group stage of the 2017\u00a0FIFA U-20 World Cup comes to an end, Football Tribe Asia<\/em> takes a look at the performances of five Asian teams participating in the tournament…<\/p>\n

Korea Republic – Qualified to the\u00a0Round of 16<\/strong><\/p>\n

The hosts delivered some good performances that excited fans and pundits alike to finished the group stage as the runner-up of Group A.<\/p>\n

The young\u00a0Taegeuk Warriors<\/em>\u00a0beat Guinea 3-0 in their opening match before clinching their ticket to the next round after a 2-1 victory against Argentina.<\/p>\n

The South Koreans were beaten 1-0 by England U-20 in the last group stage match, but the result didn’t really matter.<\/p>\n

South Korean U-20 are set to face Group C runners-up Portugal in Round of 16 on Tuesday, 30 May.<\/p>\n

Iran – Eliminated<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though Iran finished bottom in Group\u00a0C, the Central Asian side fought bravely and had every rights to be proud of their displays.<\/p>\n

Iran U-20 picked up their first win at the FIFA U-20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 1977 by defeating Costa Rica 1-0 in the opening match.<\/p>\n

However, a lapse of concentration in defence cost them the match against the African champion as Zambia scored four second-half goals to beat Iran 4-2.<\/p>\n

Iran lost their last game to Portugal after an 86-minute deflection helped the European outfit win the match.

Japan – Qualified to the Round of 16<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a ten-year hiatus, Japan returned to the U-20 World Cup with a 2-1 win against\u00a0South Africa.<\/p>\n

The 2-0 defeat against top dog Uruguay didn’t hold back the young Blue Samurais, as they fought back from behind to claim a draw against Italy.<\/p>\n

Ritsu Doan is inarguably the best player of Japan in the tournament so far, netting four goals in just three matches, including the two goals against Italy in the final match day.<\/p>\n

Japan U-20 finished third in Group D and will face Group B winner Venezuela in Round of 16. The match will take place on Tuesday, 30 May.<\/p>\n

Vietnam – Eliminated<\/strong><\/p>\n

The FIFA U-20 World Cup debutant finished last in Group E and have a lot to learn to prepare themselves for future tournaments, especially when it comes to clinical finishing.<\/p>\n

Vietnam earned their fist point of the tournament after drawing against New Zealand U-20 with their fast and energetic display.<\/p>\n

However, a 4-0 defeat against France and a 2-0 loss against Honduras ended the Southeast Asian side’s hope of qualifying for the next round.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia – Qualified to the Round of 16<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia finished third in Group F and qualified for the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed team.<\/p>\n

The West Asian side improved after losing out their first match to Senegal. They beat Ecuador 2-1 in the second match and drew eventual group winner United States 1-1 in the last match.<\/p>\n

Saudi Arabia will face Group D winner Uruguay in Round of 16 on Wednesday, 31 May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
