True Bangkok United played the role of party poopers on Tuesday night as they forced Buriram United to postpone their 2022\/23 Thai League 1 title celebrations by bouncing back from 2-0 down to beat the Thunder Castles 4-3 thanks to a last-minute goal from Willen Mota. The defeat ended Buriram’s remarkable 32-match unbeaten run, which at the time was the longest active unbeaten streak in world football.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s first against second at the Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani Province as runaway league leaders Buriram were looking to seal their ninth Thai League 1 title with a win over their closest rivals.<\/p>\n

And it seems that Masatada Ishii’s men were on course to do so, as a brace from Supachai Chaided in the 11th and 33rd minute gave Buriram a commanding 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Buriram defender Ratthanakorn Maikami inadvertently scored an own-goal in the 35th minute to give Bangkok United a glimmer of hope, before the Angels went rampant in the second half.<\/p>\n

Thitiphan Puangchan equalized for the hosts in the 66th minute, before Brazilian striker Mota gave Bangkok United the lead in the 78th minute.<\/p>\n

Goran Causic gave Buriram some measure of hope in salvaging a point by scoring his side’s equalizer in the 82nd minute, before Mota landed a decisive header into Siwarak Tedsungnoen’s goal in the fifth minute of injury time to earn all three points for Bangkok United.<\/p>\n

The loss was Buriram\u2019s first since August of last year when the Thunder Castles lost 3-2 to BG Pathum United in the 2022 Thailand Champions Cup. Since that defeat, Buriram went on a 241-day unbeaten streak, spanning 32 matches in all competitions with 28 wins and 4 draws.<\/p>\n

Despite seeing their unbeaten run being cut short in dramatic fashion, Buriram are still set to inch themselves closer to the 2022\/23 Thai League 1 title should they beat bottom-of-the-league Lampang FC on Sunday at the Chang Arena.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
