New Everton gaffer Frank Lampard was quick to heap praise on Dutchman Donny van de Beek after the on-loan Manchester United\u2019s midfielder\u2019s sterling performance helped them secure a convincing 3-0 win over Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old started alongside Allan in central midfield and was clearly a constant presence as he exercised control over the game, playing a dominant part in Everton\u2019s opener that was scored by Seamus Coleman in a strong first-half performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought Donny van de Beek was great. To play like that at home \u2013 his calmness, work rate and intelligence was great,\u2019 Lampard told reporters after his first league win as Everton boss.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he can do different roles and that\u2019s why I moved so quickly to get him. He played in a double No. 6 today and has the talent to link and get us through the lines. He\u2019s a goal threat, too, so that was one of the big pulls of bringing him in.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Netherlands international had arrived at United from Ajax in August 2020 but somehow was unable to get regular game time at Old Trafford, making only a miserable four league starts before his deadline-day to Goodison Park last month.<\/p>\n
\u201cDele Alli was (also) active when he came on,\u2019 Lampard added. \u2018There will be more from them both. They are great additions and I believe they will get better.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the dominant win, Everton advanced five points clear of the relegation zone, with Lampard buoyantly hopeful that the win can trigger off a much-needed turnaround in their season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can see the talent \u2026 it was about being a strong unit and fighting for the fans. It was a great reaction \u2026 we need to use it for a base for where we want to go in the league,\u201d Lampard said of his side, who are 16th with 22 points from as many games.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been here for two weeks. The fans love this club with a passion. When you\u2019re here you understand it\u2019s their life and how much it means to them. We can do a lot here.\u201d<\/p>\n
