Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has opened up that his arrogant streak has helped him become the player he is today \u2013 even admitting that he tells himself he is better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo before matches while discussing the importance of having an inflated ego.<\/p>\n
Mbappe has been widely hailed as the man to take over as the best player in world football when Messi and Ronaldo finally decide to hang up their boots. The Parisien sensation has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence at Paris Saint-Germain over the past four years since joining from Monaco.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old says he already ranks himself above the Barcelona star and Juventus striker only as a self-motivation inducement to excel, with this being his firm belief that it is imperative to have an arrogant streak if one were to harbor aspirations on reaching the very highest level of the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ego? Of course, it\u2019s important because when you\u2019re in the rough, no one else is going to push you,\u201d Mbappe told RMC Sport. \u201cAnd you have to convince yourself that you are capable of toppling mountains.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople don\u2019t understand ego but when you are not well there is no one who will come to your house to tell you that you can do that. It\u2019s just you and your mindset. It\u2019s just you. You have to convince yourself that you are capable of doing great things.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery time I go on a pitch I always tell myself that I\u2019m the best and yet I have played on grounds where there was Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. They are better players than me, they have done a billion more things than me. But, in my head, I always tell myself that I\u2019m the best because that way you don\u2019t give yourself limits and you try to give your best.\u201d<\/p>\n
The PSG talisman and superhot striker added:<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, sometimes people do not understand because I think there is perhaps also this barrier which is created in relation to this subject, where one does not really explain what the ego is.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor people, the ego is just not giving a friend a penalty, having a better salary than the player of the rival team. It\u2019s not just that, it\u2019s also in the preparation. It\u2019s a personal thing, to surpass yourself, it\u2019s way beyond that superficial thing of saying \u2018me, me\u2019. But I think there is quite a bit to be said about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Indisputably, Mbappe has already achieved more in the first six years of his professional careers than most players do by the time they hang up their boots.<\/p>\n
The World Cup-winning France international, who started out at Monaco before joining PSG in 2017, has already won ten domestic trophies, including four Ligue 1 titles, while scoring 150 goals across all competitions, besides playing a key role in Les Bleus\u2019 run to Glory in Russia three years ago \u2013 an achievement yet to be matched by Messi and Ronaldo for Argentina or Portugal, respectively.<\/p>\n
However, the reality remains that Messi and Ronaldo have shared 11 Ballon d\u2019Or\u2019s between them over the last 12 years, with the former the top scorer in Barca\u2019s history and the latter in Real Madrid\u2019s hall of fame for the same reason.<\/p>\n
Mbappe still has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same bracket as two of the greatest players of all time, but is a likely contender for the 2021 Ballon d\u2019Or if he continues on his current trajectory \u2013 which would clearly be a monumental step in the right direction.<\/p>\n
Mbappe\u2019s stellar performances have put PSG in serious contention for the Ligue 1 crown and Champions League glory once again this season, having scored 30 goals in 36 games to date, besides also setting up nine assists for his team-mates.<\/p>\n
