Gary Neville has lashed out at Manchester United\u2019s transfer tactics and urged them to move on quickly from the Jadon Sancho transfer saga histrionics.<\/p>\n
Although United have signed Ajax midfielder Donny Van De Beek this summer in a 39 million euros (\u00a334.1million) deal that could rise to 44 million euros (\u00a338.5million)m former United captain Neville believes that has not been enough this summer ahead of the Premier League that kicks off this weekend, and says the Red Devils have been left trailing behind Chelsea and Manchester City in the recruitment stakes.<\/p>\n
Despite United\u2019s season having only ended three weeks ago with a Europa League defeat to Seville, nevertheless Neville is of the opinion that:<\/p>\n
\u201cLike everyone else they had three months off because of coronavirus, so I don\u2019t think it should be the case they didn\u2019t have the resource or time to get things done.<\/p>\n
\u201cChelsea got their business done, City have got three or four pieces done. I don\u2019t think timing\u2019s the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a thing with United that every time they go for a player in the last four, five, six years it feels they are a little bit desperate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey think they can hang on but they always pay it (the asking fee) in the end.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s sometimes where I think you can take control, give a hard deadline and say \u2018we\u2019re moving away from this deal\u2019.<\/p>\n
The former United skipper\u2019s bone of contention centers around the possible arrival of Borussia Dortmund star Sancho that has been dominating transfer talk at Old Trafford this summer.<\/p>\n
United want to make the England winger their marquee signing, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add Sancho to fellow forwards Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.<\/p>\n
But Dortmund have been rigidly holding out for a fee in the region of 120 million euros (\u00a3108million) while repeatedly insisting that the 20-year-old former Manchester City player is happy to stay in Germany.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s been the frustration with Sancho,\u201d Neville said during a TalkTalk media session.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that it\u2019s dragged on. Just say to Dortmund \u2018leave him there\u2019 and go get another player.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are plenty of players around, there can\u2019t be just one player you\u2019re chasing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is frustrating but I do think United have been better in these last couple of seasons, more careful and not making mistakes either.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you can\u2019t get a deal done (for Sancho) you have to move on. You certainly have to give hard deadlines on players.\u201d<\/p>\n
