Last night saw teams from around Asia participating in World Cup Qualification and Asian Cup Qualification matches. While there were positive results for the likes of Vietnam, Philippines or Australia, Thailand and Cambodia suffered heavy away defeats.<\/p>\n

Japan 4-0 Thailand\u00a0(World Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan eased to a 4-0 home win to end Thailand’s hopes of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Vahid Halilhodic’s side\u00a0controlled the match throughout and got the opening goal via Shinji Kagawa in the 8th minute.\u00a0Forward Shinji Okazaki added a second 11 minutes later before\u00a0Gent forward Yuya Kubo made it 3-0.<\/p>\n

Centre defender Maya Yoshida completed the rout for the East Asian side with a close-range header in the 83rd minute.<\/p>\n

The win lifts Japan to the top spot of Group B, while Thailand remain in the last place without a win.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan 1-1 Vietnam\u00a0(AFC Asian Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vietnam shared the spoils with Afghanistan in Group C of the third round of Asian Cup Qualification.<\/p>\n

Afghan stopper Ovays Azizi pulled out a spectacular save to deny a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area, but Vietnam\u2019s Nguyen Van Toan followed up smartly to head the ball home.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan captain Hassan Amin equalized just four minutes later with a stunning volley from just outside the area.<\/p>\n

Vietnam are currently second in Group B, while Afghanistan are third, both with 1 point.<\/p>\n

Australia 2-0 United Arab Emirates\u00a0(World Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Australia ended a run of four consecutive World Cup qualifying draws with a 2-0 victory over the UAE at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Jackson Irvine (7′) and Matthew Leckie (78′) were the scorers for the Socceroos.\u00a0The win took the Socceroos to 13 points, 3 points behind Group B leaders Saudi Arabia and Japan.<\/p>\n

Australia’s next qualifying match is a home match against Saudi Arabia on June 8 this year.<\/p>\n

Philippines 4-1 Nepal\u00a0(AFC Asian Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Philippines hammered Nepal 4-1 in their Group F match of the AFC Asian Cup third round qualifiers played at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.<\/p>\n

Phil Younghusband scored a quick-fire brace in the 21st and 23rd minute before Iain Ramsey scored the third just four minutes later.<\/p>\n

Bishal Rai pulled one back for Nepal in the stoppage time of the first half, but it clearly wasn’t enough for the visitor. Javier Patino sealed the win for the Philippines with just 18 minutes before time.<\/p>\n

The result puts the Philippines on the top of Group F with three points after one game.<\/p>\n

South Korea 1-0 Syria (World Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Korea returned to their winning way in Group A after edging out Syria\u00a0at the Seoul World Cup Stadium yesterday.<\/p>\n

Hong Jeong-ho’s early strike was enough to help the home side come out on top. The win helps South Korea to retain the second place of Group A, which means automatic qualification for Russia 2018.<\/p>\n

South Korea’s next qualifying match is in June when they visit Qatar.<\/p>\n

Myanmar 0-1 India (AFC Asian Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

India beat Myanmar 1-0 in their Group A opening game of the AFC Asian Cup third round qualification at Thuwunna Stadium.<\/p>\n

Myanmar looked the better side but couldn’t find the net. The home side would later regret this as Sunil Chhetri scored the winning goal late in the game.<\/p>\n

The result sees India top the group with three points from one game.<\/p>\n

Iran 1-0 China\u00a0(World Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iran continued their dominance in Group A of World Cup Qualification third round when they beat China 1-0 at the Azadi Stadium last night.<\/p>\n

The home side took the lead in the 46th minute after good work by Masoud Shojaei saw Mehdi Taremi hit home the only goal of the encounter.<\/p>\n

Iran hold on to their Group A top spot with a safe 4-point lead over second-place South Korea, while\u00a0China’s hopes of reaching Russia appear to be hanging by a thread. The East Asian side have only 5 points from 7 matches, with just 3 more games to play.<\/p>\n

Bahrain 0-0 Singapore\u00a0(AFC Asian Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Singapore avoided defeat for the first time in a long time against Bahrain on Tuesday evening as the teams played out a goalless draw.<\/p>\n

Singapore never enjoyed much possession and were defending for most of the 90 minutes, but the Southeast Asian outfit have every right to be proud of their performance.<\/p>\n

This result sees both Singapore and Bahrain tied in second with one point in Group E.<\/p>\n

Jordan 7-0 Cambodia\u00a0(AFC Asian Cup Qualification – Third Round)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordan put on a thumping display when they shipped seven goals past a hapless Cambodia in their Asian Cup third round qualifier.<\/p>\n

Al-Dardour (12′, 21′, 87′) netted a hattrick, while Al-Bakhit (46′), Al-Saify (61′), Samir (63′) and Al-Taamari\u00a0(90′) scored one each.<\/p>\n
