Now that you are a head coach at Ayutthaya United, how does it feel?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Santi: When I was an assistant I would only support, but now as a head coach I take more responsibility. I must talk with the board about bringing players, take care of the training, and everything. But when I was an assistant, I would only support, maybe talk with the players, and help with training sessions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you enjoy this more?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, for sure!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>You have worked a lot as an assistant to Coach Ban (Totchtawan Sripan) at both Muangthong and Suphanburi &#8211; what do you like about his coaching style, and what have you learned from working with him?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has a good character for a coach, and he has a [good] style. He\u2019d play a style, like 4-4-2, but would not be fixed in the 4-4-2. We can rotate &#8211; maybe when we attack, we can change to a 3-5-2, [for example]. That\u2019s why I say, football in the system we have formations, but in the game we can change. He is very good, he taught me many things. I learned a lot from Jorka.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>You were the caretaker coach of Muangthong for a short time in 2018, and had responsibility of managing the first team for six games. What was it like to deal with the pressure of being in charge of one of Thailand\u2019s biggest clubs, and are you happy with how you performed there?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I tried my best, I didn\u2019t take on too much pressure, and I knew about the quality of the players because I had been at Muangthong for a long time. I tried my best and good results came. We were unlucky because [during] my time, we had many players injured. That was a big problem for Muangthong. In Coach Ban\u2019s last game, we lost to Prachuap 6-1 because we had many problems with player injuries. When I took [charge] for six games, I tried my best.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In my first game I started a young player, Peem (Patcharapol Intanee). We had no choice, but he had good quality so I gave him his first game in the Thai League. In that first game he had a good performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Gian: Were you surprised when they asked you to step in as head coach? Did you have enough time to prepare?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of the players were shocked when we lost to Prachuap, and in the press conference Totchtawan said he was [leaving] Muangthong. We were shocked. All the players and I didn\u2019t know because we were on the bus already. But on the bus from Prachuap to Muangthong I had many phone calls, but still I didn\u2019t know about the press conference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sarach (Yooyen) called me, and asked \u2018what happened?\u2019 He asked me to try and get Coach Ban to stay but it was too late already. Then in the morning the president called me and told me [to take charge for a few games].\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Grant: I remember though, for those games, it was difficult for the players but they fought every game. They fought very hard. How did you achieve that, and how did you get them so motivated?\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the training, I try to put the motivation for the players because we have no choice. We have to wait until the club chooses a new coach to replace Totchtawan. The players knew the situation, so they tried their best. After we played [against] Ubon, we played at home and we won 2-1, I remember. Why did you make this decision?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When [Coach Radovan] Curcic came, he bought many assistants. I talked with many clubs, like Suphanburi, but when I finished with Muangthong I went to Ayutthaya first to be head coach. They had the playoff from T3 to T2, and we had two games against Narathiwat. I brought Ayutthaya to T2, but then I talked with Suphanburi and Coach Ban, and followed him there. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Continue 6:34)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>After your time there, you came back to Ayutthaya again. What is about Ayutthaya that you like?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s because [Ayutthaya] is my home town. I was born in Ayutthaya, which is why it is easy for me to help them. I want to [bring] Ayutthaya up [in terms of] football. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(or: \u201cI want to put Ayutthaya more up about the football\u201d). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have a good city, near Bangkok and everything. They have good fans also, who support [the team].\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Has the club convinced you that their long-term plan is good?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes of course, but in football, you [can\u2019t have] (don\u2019t need?) a long contract because football can change every day. We coaches depend on the result. You could have a contract for six years, but if you lose five or six games you can\u2019t stay in that contract. That is why I try my best for the good results. We don\u2019t need to talk about five or six years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But I like [to stay] with a club, like I did Muanghtong. When I was a player I also stayed with just one club. I [was at] Sinthana from when I was young, I stayed six years, and then I went to Singapore for five years. I don\u2019t like to change many clubs, I\u2019d [prefer] to stay longer. But, they say that they will give their support, but I must give good results also. This is fair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>You have said that you will use your relationship with Muangthong United to help recruit players for the team &#8211; how has that process been going so far?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the young players, when they don\u2019t have a chance to play, they try to speak with me. Because I stay in T2, they know the quality of them for the young players. They want to show [their talent], because they are not that young already. Some players are 22 or 23 years old, and they want to play [regularly]. They know me, [my method] of training and everything. They try to call me, and I say that if you have a contract, I can\u2019t bring you. That is why they try to [come] on loan or when they finish their contract they try to call me. They want to play in T2, and they will have a chance to play because I know the quality of the players, and the players know me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>It was reported that you are planning to set up your own academy. Please tell us more about this, and what your plan will be for your own academy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In football, for a coach, we don\u2019t know what will happen. One day you could wake up and [it\u2019s] finished. I must have my own business, which is why we made an academy in Bangkok.
