An exciting season is gearing up for an even more exciting finish:

The Title Race

Three sides remain in the battle for the 2019 Thai League title. Defending champions Buriram United currently share top spot with Chiangrai United, and would lose on head-to-head if the two sides finished the campaign on equal points.

Two points behind them, a resurgent Port FC are looking to disrupt the party, eager to snap up the chance if either of the top two slip up. Below them, both Bangkok United and Muangthong have a mathematical chance of finishing on top, but that is likely to be fully quashed on Wednesday.

Chiangrai have the added pressure of playing the day after their two title rivals, meaning that they may start the day in third before they face PTT Rayong. Following that, games against recently crowed league cup winners Prachuap and a Suphanburi side that will likely need points on the final day to survive will be a major test of character for the Beetles.

Port and Buriram both have winnable games on Wednesday, but face each other at the Chang Arena after the international break in a game that could well decide the title race.

Buriram United – 51 points: Nakhon Ratchasima (A), Port (H), Chiangmai (A)

Chiangrai United – 51 points: PTT Rayong (A), Prachuap (H), Suphanburi (A)

Port FC – Chainat (H), Buriram United (A), Samut Prakan City (H)

The Relegation Battle

It looks like five sides vying for two safe spots in the final three games of the season. Nakhon Ratchasima are yet to do enough to pull themselves out of it, and will not have an easy time against a livid Buriram side looking to avenge their recent League Cup defeat. Chainat also find themselves away to title contenders. Sukhothai and Suphanburi would fancy their chances against mid-table sides with nothing much to fight for, but both Ratchaburi and Prachuap will be buoyed by recent successes in the domestic cups.

Two ‘six-pointers’ between the bottom five sides are still left to be played out, and both of them involve Nakhon Ratchasima. The Swatcats will travel to Chainat for their penultimate fixture before hosting Sukhothai on the final day.

Chiangmai FC could see their time in the first division end on Wednesday if they lose to Bangkok United and Suphanburi collect all three points against Prachuap. Stunningly, the Lanna Tigers have a head-to-head advantage over all four of the sides they are fighting with for survival, giving them hope of potentially pulling off what would be an incredible escape, having been outside the relegation zone for only 6 of the 27 Gameweeks thus far.

Nakhon Ratchasima – 31 points: Buriram United (H), Chainat (A), Sukhothai (H)

Suphanburi FC – 28 points: Prachuap (H), Samut Prakan City (A), Chiangrai United (H)

Sukhothai FC – 27 points: Ratchaburi (H), Trat (H), Nakhon Ratchasima (A)

Chainat Hornbill FC – 27 points: Port (A), Nakhon Ratchasima (H), Chonburi (A)

Chiangmai FC – 24 points: Bangkok United (A), PTT Rayong (A), Buriram United (H)

Gian Chansrichawla Football Tribe SEA Editor Only three weeks remain in the Thai League, yet we are no closer to determining which teams will go down, which clubs will represent Thailand in the AFC Champions League and who will ultimately emerge as champions.
