Thailand opened up their World Cup qualifying campaign with a retrospectively disappointing 0-0 draw against Vietnam. Akira Nishino unveiled his tactics in front of the Changsuek faithful for the first time, and we got a chance to see how different players performed in his system.\u00a0Thailand based writers Gian Chansrichawla<\/strong> and Obb Deewajin<\/strong> have rated each player based on their performance on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Siwarak Tedsungnoen – 7\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite being tested early on, Siwarak maintained his composure throughout the game and kept Vietnam at bay. His calming presence showed that he was worthy of the armband given to him by the new boss, coming out to diffuse tense situations on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tristan Do – 6\/10\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The weaker of the two full-backs on the night, Thailand struggled to create anything down Tristan’s side. Usually known for his rampages forward, Tristan performed below his usual standard, opting for too many safe passes and not attempting enough offensive take-ons.<\/p>\n

Manuel Bihr –\u00a0<\/strong>6.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bangkok United defender looks crucial to Nishino’s vision of playing out from the back, and after a slow start, caught up to the pace needed to beat the Vietnamese press. Comfortable on the ball and imposing in the air, Manuel looks like he could be a true asset to Thailand once he gets used to Nishino’s system.<\/p>\n

Pansa Hemviboon – 6\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

The defender Misjudge the flight of the ball in the opening seconds, handing Nguyen Tien Linh a golden opportunity to put Vietnam ahead. Pansa’s inability to play out from the back meant he was easily cornered into dangerous situations by the opposition.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Theerathon Bunmathan – 7.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

Experience and technically excellent. Theerathon was Thailand’s best hope in build-up play. The Marinos fullback linked well with Supachok Sarachat and Phitiwat Sukjitthammakul, forming a 3-man partnership that dominated the entire left flank.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tanaboon Kesarat – 6\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

Playing at the base of Thailand’s diamond and sometimes between the central defenders, faster ball circulation from Tanaboon could have been the difference. Instead, he looked slow and ponderous on the ball, put off by the pace of international football and was a target of Vietnamese pressing.<\/p>\n

Sarach Yooyen – 6.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

The busy midfielder was always available for a pass and might have had a better game if the pitch was in better condition. Playing his part in both attacking and defending, he had a fine performance overall but could be better.<\/p>\n

Phitiwat Sukjitthamakul – 7\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phitiwat ran tirelessly up and down the inside-left channel. His understanding with wide-forward Supachok Sarachat was encouraging to see. Shame he was substituted off with a minor injury.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Supachok Sarachart – 7.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the best player on the pitch. Supachok tore the Vietnamese defense to pieces with his pace and direct attack – his change of pace and attempts to cut inside was particularly lethal on the night. A great showing for his second senior start and we can expect to see more of this in the next game against Indonesia.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chanathip Songkrasin – 6.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chanathip was free to roam, but it seemed as if there were at least two opponents with him wherever he showed up. The Consadole Sapporo attacker drew many fouls and got the fans on their feet every time he ran with the ball. Unfortunately, Chanathip hardly got a sniff at goal.<\/p>\n

Thitipan Puangchan – 6.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n

A bit quiet in the first half but looked much more alive in the second when he dropped deeper. Unluckily, Thitipan was forced off injured and now had to withdraw from the squad.<\/p>\n

Supachai Jaided – 6\/10 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Buriram youngster came on as a striker but didn’t really exert himself into the game. Better luck next time.<\/p>\n

Peeradol Chamrasamee – 6\/10<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

He gave the ball away in the middle of the park that led Vietnam’s counter-attack. However, his urgency on the ball and will to find a way through a compact defense was encouraging.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Siwakorn Tiatrakul – 6.5\/10<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Played a wonderful diagonal pass behind the Vietnamese defense that almost led to Supachok’s winning goal in the dying minutes of the match.<\/p>\n
