Even the most courageous person in the world is scared of something<\/em>. Even if we try to hide it around other people, in our mind, we know what we hate and what we don’t want to see.<\/p>\n

This is also true of football players. Even if we see our heroes as courageous warriors on the pitch, sometimes they are not the same in real life.<\/p>\n

Today let’s look at seven footballers and their strange fears.<\/p>\n

Dennis Bergkamp<\/strong>
\nFear: Airplanes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bergkamp is famous for his airplane phobia. In the beginning, it was only a soft annoying feeling but getting closer to the end of his career the problem became bigger.<\/p>\n

He said: “I started to go to a therapist. As soon as I step on the airplane my body doesn’t move at all. Also, the night before taking a flight I wasn’t able to sleep at all for how much I was scared”.<\/p>\n

Jes\u00fas Navas<\/strong>
\nFear: Being Far From Home<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here’s a fear which explains why Navas, who is certainly talented enough to feature for top clubs all over the world, only left his local club Sevilla for a short stint at Manchester cITY.<\/p>\n

Navas reveal one fact about his past: “When I was a little boy I had to go to a training camp one hour far from home. As soon as I arrived there I had homesick and I got in panic. I was so scared that my father and my brother had to come back to pick me up again”<\/p>\n

Paul Gascoigne<\/strong>
\nFear: Darkness<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gascoigne, who continued to fight against alcoholism during his life, was also scared about another thing. Darkness.<\/p>\n

One of his former teammates said: “In the hotel during away games, he always slept with the television turned on. Also when he wasn’t able to calm down and sleep, he just went out of the room searching for someone to speak with”.<\/p>\n

Phil Jones<\/strong>
\nFear: ‘Foreign’ Elevators<\/strong><\/p>\n

A lot of people are scared of elevators but, for Phil Jones, it is different. The Manchester United player is only scared of elevators outside England.<\/p>\n

He explained why he has such a strange phobia: “When I was a child I went on holiday to Greece with my parents. There was trouble with the elevator and we were caged onside it for few hours.” That became a trauma for the player.<\/p>\n

Wayne Rooney<\/strong>
\nFear: Silence<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wayne Rooney, who just a few days ago was involved in another scandal with a girl, also has a notable phobia. The thing Rooney is afraid of is Silence.<\/p>\n

He said: “I cannot sleep if everything around me is too calm. So before sleeping, I turn on something such as Vacuum cleaner, hairdryer or an electric fan.”<\/p>\n

If it was not for his high salary he would probably struggle to pay his electricity bills.<\/p>\n

David Beckham<\/strong>
\nFear:\u00a0 Frogs<\/strong><\/p>\n

During a documentary for the BBC, Beckham went to Amazonia. In that program, he revealed he was scared about frogs.<\/p>\n

He said: “That’s not a joke, I hate frogs. The one I saw was not green but orange. My friend said to me it was dangerous, so I had a bad feeling about it”<\/p>\n

Rumors on the Internet say that Beckham is also scared of birds…<\/p>\n

Olivier Giroud<\/strong>
\nFear: Alf<\/strong><\/p>\n

That is a really strange phobia but Olivier Giroud is scared about the protagonist of an American Tv show of the ’80s. The series name is “ALF,” who was also the name of the alien protagonist on the show. Pretty sure some of you around 40 years old would know about it.<\/p>\n
