1. Shilton Paul<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 29, the Mohun Bagan captain and goalkeeper is certainly not one of the young legs around and considering the quality available in the goalkeeping department in the Indian National team with the likes of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh to guard the net, it might not be the easiest job to find a place.<\/p>\n

But if the current performance of Shilton Paul in the recently concluded Hero I League 2017-18 has anything to go by, the Mohun Bagan shot-stopper could easily feature in the National Team.<\/p>\n

Named after former English goalkeeper Peter Shilton, the Bagan goalkeeper has been outstanding beneath the bars throughout the season and his phenomenal save in the Kolkata Derby against Laldanmawia Ralte’s shot is arguably the save of the season.<\/p>\n

Shilton has been awarded the “Best Goalkeeper Award” by AIFF this season for his impactful goalkeeping and Indian fans would love to see him once again guarding the goal for Indian National Team.<\/p>\n

2. Samuel Lalmuanpuia<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At just 19, Samuel Lalmuanpuia was given the captaincy of Shillong Lajong for the 2017-18 I-League season, speaks volumes of the amount of trust Lajong management and Coach had on this phenomenal Lajong youth product.<\/p>\n

Samuel Lalmuanpuia is a warrior at heart and never backs out from a challenge.Good from set pieces, Samuel is Lajong’s “go-to man” for penalties, corners and free-kicks and isn’t shy to throw his body in front of the ball.<\/p>\n

Though Samuel wears the number 9 jersey, fitted with a pair of iron lungs he is all about running box-to-box throughout 90-minutes.<\/p>\n

Samuel engine like work-rate and quality on the ball has made him a fan favorite at the club and could be a great sight for football fans, donning the Blues for Indian National team to add some character and fight in the midfield.<\/p>\n

3. Raynier Fernandes<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Raynier is probably one of the best creative midfielders in I-League as de displayed verve and imagination time and again.<\/p>\n

Dipanda Dicka’s double goal in the return derby against East Bengal won all the accolades but Raynier slipped under the radar despite his stellar performance in the midfield partnering Yuta Kinowakai was decisive to keep possession and controlling the game.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has a remarkable vision, great feet and his movement on and off the ball can break the line in multiple ways to feed the forward line with incisive passes.<\/p>\n

Gifted with his skills to construct attacks, keeping possession and passing range Raynier could be a potent addition to Indian National team given the fact that inconsistent players who are irregular for their club teams like Holicharan Narzary and Anirudh Thapa surprisingly find a place in the midfield department of the National team.<\/p>\n

4. Soosairaj Michael<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though Chennai City did not have a successful season yet Soosairaj Michael glittered like a diamond in the attacking midfielder role scoring three goals and leading Chennai City FC’s late resurgence during the second half of the season.<\/p>\n

Playing in the central role behind Aleksander Rakic, Soosairaj showed quick integration into the versatile attacking midfield role.<\/p>\n

Michael Soosairaj partnered with Edwin Vanspaul to fit in the central midfield role for the Southern side where his clarity of thinking helped Chennai City FC build the attack from the central pitch.<\/p>\n

Soosairaj showed his skills with positional awareness, versatility and scoring ability when needed to turn Chennai City FC into a surprise side in their debut season in the top flight of I-League.<\/p>\n

His impressive form has landed him a two year lucrative deal with Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC and it remains to be seen how long before the talented Chennai lad can break into the midfield formation of Steven Constantine’s Indian national team.<\/p>\n

5. Singham Subhash Singh<\/strong><\/p>\n

Subhash Singh took the I League 2017-18 by storm for his hometown club NEROCA FC in their debut I-League season as the diminutive winger dazzled on the left channel tormenting defenders to power the Manipur side finish second in the Hero I League.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old is truly unique in the way the amount of energy he brings on the field.Dynamic, energetic and direct is what Subhash Singh is all about. Though he tends to play from the left channel, always dangerous when cutting back inside onto his favored right foot to shoot from narrow angles or to play “one-two” with the striker or utilize his dribbling skill and pace outside the box to create space and swing crosses into the box.<\/p>\n

A wonderful wing-technician, Subhash has the ability to find space in the final third, both between the lines and just off the touchline to create an assist or run directly at defenders with pace.<\/p>\n

Now at 28, with the right amount of maturity and experience, Subhash is at his peak, perfect time for him to play alongside Sunil Chhetri, Jeje or Balwant to create a formidable attacking formation for the Indian National team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
