1. Faith<\/strong><\/p>\n

Korea’s manager\u00a0Shin Tae-yong chose Park Joo-ho and Lee Yong. Park has recently returned to K League from Bundesliga, and Lee just recovered injury, which made fans question Shin’s decision.<\/p>\n

Both rewarded his faith throughout the match. On 6 minutes, Park, who received a pass from Lee on the right flank, made a thru pass to\u00a0Kwon Chang-hoon to break the defense. Kwon scored the opener.<\/p>\n

Jang Hyun-soo, however, made another mistake and did not live up to Shin’s expectation.\u00a0FC Tokyo’s defender\u00a0has been called up frequently inspite of fans’ criticism. In the 85th minute, Jang failed to mark Paul Smyth in the air, leading to the winning goal, which was\u00a0conceded in a smiliar way when playing against Jamaica.<\/p>\n

2. Regrets<\/strong><\/p>\n

Korea showed a decent performance. Indeed, Korea has recorded the higher number of attempts and ball possession.<\/p>\n

However, Korea found it difficult to convert chances. In the 14th minute, not long after the opener, Son missed a one-on-one chance as the referee blew the whistle as Kim Shin-wook committed an unnecessary foul.<\/p>\n

As Korea lost a chance, a crisis came as Northern Ireland received earned a freekick. and the ball Kim Min-jae tried to clear found the net.<\/p>\n

Korea focused on attack after having conceded an equaliser, but Korea’s poor finishing made 12 attempts fruitless.<\/p>\n

3. Meaningless<\/strong><\/p>\n

Korea was dominating the game. Korea possessed\u00a0the ball 65% of the time, and recorded 13 attempts, nine more than Norther Ireland. However, finishing was\u00a0very poor; attempts on target\u00a0were three for both teams, showing how inaccurate\u00a0it was.<\/p>\n

Set piece comes in handy in such case where the opponent “park the bus,” but Korea’s nine chances from the corner made little impact.<\/p>\n

In the end, the result is decided by who scored more; all the attempts and ball possession were rather meaningless.<\/p>\n
