Former vice-president Chung Mong-joon won appeal at\u00a0Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has effectively ended his ban.<\/p>\n
Chung, the sixth son of\u00a0Chung Ju-yung, founder of Hyundai, had previously been found guilty for “improper lobbying” during South Korea’s bidding process for the 2022 World Cup. He first received a six-year ban and a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs, which were later mitigated to a five-year ban and 50,000 Swiss Francs.<\/p>\n
However, CAS concluded that while Chung was guilty, his violations were “a far lesser degree than found by the FIFA instances,” and reduced the existing ban to 15 months, which expired as of 7th January 2018. CAS also annulled his fine.<\/p>\n
This means he can return to football industry immediately.<\/p>\n
