Iran lost Asia’s table lead in FIFA ranking after 7 years

Iran has dropped to the second place of Asian top teams in FIFA ranking following recent disappointing results in 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.

Team Melli had been the table topper among Asian sides in FIFA ranking for 7 years and in this period with Carlos Queiroz in charge they were mostly among World’s top 30 teams.

But in FIFA November Ranking, Iran sits at the 33rd place with six places shy of the last month and lost the top of Asian sides table to Japan.

Marc Wilmots’ men defeated by Bahrain and Iraq in 2022 World Cup qualifiers and now they face a tough task at hand to secure their spot in the next round.

Korea republic, Australia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iraq are next Asian sides in this ranking.
